 | | PETER GREEN & FRIENDS | | March 12, 2010, 7:00PM | | “The place was packed. This is the real Peter Green…..like I always wanted to see him, and now finally, I have.”
Dingwall’s, London. 12th July
2009.
“This is not a comeback. This is a beautiful person, a great artist, a genius. A soulful musician live on
stage…this wasn't just a concert. this was a great experience.” Batschkaap, Frankfurt 15th June
2009
“To see a genuine legend at such close quarters was a real privilege. The fact that this newly-rejuvenated Green is
getting back to his best, just made it all the more special.” Moles Club, Bath 2nd September 2009
As the above feedback clearly illustrates, Peter Green and Friends is about the man himself enjoying the
performance experience – this is not a Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac greatest hits band. Naturally, no Peter Green
appearance would be complete without a few of his classic compositions, but now the focus is on fresh renditions of
Peter's personal blues, R&B and soul favourites. The repertoire is an exciting, unpredictable mix and you can't help
but notice him smiling and laughing in a way not seen for a very long time.
The Peter Green Story is well documented and needs little repetition here. This is the man who, at the age of 19, took
on the ‘Clapton is God’ mob when he replaced Eric Clapton in John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, and soon won them over.
Then a year or so later he started one of the most successful bands in rock history – Fleetwood Mac. Since then,
legends like BB King and Carlos Santana have expressed huge admiration for Green's playing finesse and unique
interpretation of many blues guitar styles.
In 2009, after several years out of the public eye, he returned with a new band – Peter Green and Friends. Now
seated centre stage, what is obvious is that the show revolves around him, and that he is in the company of notably
simpatico musicians. Peter’s guitar and voice is shining once again.
Band leader, Mike Dodd has brought together a cracking group of musicians: keyboard ace Geraint Watkins (Van
Morrrison, Nick Lowe, Bill Wyman), the cool stand-up bass of Matt Radford (Peter Molinari, Nick Lowe) and the
blues-driven grooves of drummer and Andalucian resident Andrew Flude, plus the chunky rhythm guitar of Mike
Dodd. All are there, first and foremost, to provide keen support to the great man himself.
After sell-out shows in Europe, UK and Eire in 2009 the band played their first full-scale European tour in the
autumn, taking in venues from Copenhagen through to Rome. During February and March 2010 they will play 19
concerts around England and Wales. | |
